What You Will Need

MDF Panelling It is possible to have the panel cut to size, or purchase MdF to cut yourself. Wall Panelling Measurement 

Once you've determined the type of panelling to use and the location to place it, you'll need to determine the wall's dimensions.  

In accordance with the design, measure the dimensions of the wall as well as the height you'd like the panelling to be.



Draw the dimensions on the paper, including the light switches as well as windows, plug sockets and doors.

Determine how tall and wide you'd like your panel to be, and ensure that your panels are spaced equally from each other.

For an Example :- My wall measures 3300mm in between two doors. I chose to install 7 panels with each measuring around 80mm. This gives me the sum 7x80 = 560mm. This would be the width of all the panels. After that, I subtract the panel's width (560) by the width of the wall (3300) 3300 x 560 = 2740, which gives me the remaining space between each panel. There would be six gaps between the seven panels, I subdivided the 2740/6 to get 457mm (rounded to the nearest millimeter).

MDF PANELLING

Once you have your measurements in order and you're ready to begin the process of preparation of the wood. Chose MDF which had to be cut down to size. Chose to go with 1520mm of height and another 80mm to the top of the panel. This means that the wall will be 2/3's of the wall.

One thing I would definitely recommend is to buy a good quality MDF! The MdF we have is just 6mm thick and therefore doesn't make a statement in the room. I'd recommend going to 12mm. You can Order Premium Quality MDF Board Online from CrackADeal


The GLUE!

Apply the glue evenly on the side of the panelling, creating a zigzag so it's spread across both sides. Once you're happy with the design, attach the panel to the wall. The glue will not set immediately so you'll need a bit of time to move it around in position until you are able to push it into the wall. Use an apex level to ensure that the panel is straight not forgetting the top of your panel as well.


The Shelf

It was able to create a small shelf over  panelling so you could put art on the rest of the wall. Then, using similar glue glued it on the wall just above that horizontal wall. I was concerned that the glue would not hold but I underestimated the strength to hold the adhesive! The shelf is completely glued and will hold some prints that are light.

PAINT

When the panelling is secured and the caulk is dried, you are able to begin painting. Make sure you tape the skirting board as well as any frames for doors or windows surrounding the panels. Began by using a primer paint the panelling , and then waiting till it dried. Next, using a tiny brush, paint on the outside of the panelling. Finish by painting the wall behind with small rollers.

TIPS and TRICKS

If you want your panel to be noticeable on the walls, invest in more thicker MDF. 12mm or more is likely to suffice.

Clean the caulk from the decorators using a damp finger to create a smooth surface. After it's dried and dried, you are unable to remove it when it's uneven.
